Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Helmut Muller-Bruhl (conductor)
Overflowing with Mozart's characteristic melodic invention and deliciously abundant wit, these two celebratory Divertimenti are both associated with his time in Salzburg. The D major Divertimento K251 was probably written for the name-day of Mozart's sister Nannerl, and K334 for the university graduation of a prosperous family friend. This is the late Helmut Muller-Bruhl's last recording. He and the Cologne Chamber Orchestra have been responsible for some of Naxos's most successful recordings, including their Cannes Classical Award winning Telemann Darmstadt Overtures (8554244), as well as numerous Haydn and Bach discs recognised for their period transparency and musical sensitivity.
