Many of Giuseppe Verdi's operas exist in several different versions. Here we see the 1886 Modena version of his dramatic opera Don Carlo. Originally comissioned and produced by the Paris Opera, Verdi later edited the score to reduce its length. However, he allowed a performance on 29 December 1886 in Modena which presented the 'Fontainebleau' first act along with the revised four-act version which was published by Ricordi as 'a new edition in five acts without ballet'. An impressive cast is conducted by Fabrizio Ventura, who has also performed at the Opera Houses of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo, at the famous Arena di Verona, Sydney Opera House, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh. Giacomo Presita has performed with great conductors such as Abbado, Mehta, Muti, Pretre, Gatti, Luisotti and Barenboim. Mario Malagnini has sung at many important opera houses including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and La Scala in Milan and performed under conductors such Domingo, Abbado, Muti and Sinopoli. Cellia Costea has performed at the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Royal Opera Amsterdam and Liceu Barcelona. Includes an 11-minute introduction to Verdi's Don Carlo.
